Really Green Frog

 "Really Green Frog"

1. Do nothing
Try this (funny) one:

2. Unserious
I posted previously on the silly high-speed rail reference in President Obama's speech. This is a WSJ subscription piece by Peggy Noonan that is of a similar vein.

Peggy Noonan's theme is, well, the unserious nature of the speech. She mentions President Obama's terrible joke about airport pat-downs "to which the president has never been and will never be subjected". Here's the most relevant factoid for me.

QOTD
"The federal government is twice the size it was 10 years ago.
It's 27% bigger than it was two years ago."

The fed deficit (nor Illinois) is not a revenue problem. It is a spending problem.

Here's a serious notion that President Obama could have made during his speech... a simple leftie/rightie tradeoff:
  • Offer reducing fed spending to 2008 levels, less than 20% of GDP
  • In exchange for higher taxes on the richy-rich.
If you yearn for longer-term seriousness, then you could throw in there tax simplification and allowing free choice options in health care and retirement. If President Obama wants Obamacare, then keep it and offer people to join or not. Pretty simple.
really green... yow, bill

PS - My really green frog is from the Shedd Aquarium... not bad for indoors with my crappy digital.
